SK "Leading ESG as a Professional Value Investor"
Jang Dong-hyun, CEO of SK Inc., is speaking at the 30th shareholders' meeting held on the 29th.
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Jang Dong-hyun, CEO of SK Inc., said on the 29th, "This year marks the first year of full-scale execution of the four core businesses: advanced materials, green, bio, and digital. We will grow into an expert value investor actively supported by shareholders."
At the 30th regular general meeting of shareholders held that day, CEO Jang stated, "Despite the global pandemic shock last year, we have realized investment achievements such as the successful listing of SK Biopharm and the ESR block deal, showing a virtuous cycle structure."
With the approval of the agenda submitted at the general meeting, the amendment to the articles of incorporation, including the company's English name (SK Inc.) and the board-centered governance restructuring plan, was finalized. As a business holding company of SK Group, it holds shares in major affiliates while focusing on investment business. It also emphasized clarifying its identity as an investment company that can lead ESG (environment, social, governance) management centered on advanced materials, green (eco-friendly), bio, and digital sectors, which are considered investment areas. A new provision was created in the governance charter to include specific practical measures for establishing transparent and sound governance, and the role of the board of directors was expanded to include evaluation and compensation of inside directors.

At the general meeting, Kim Sun-hee, CEO of Maeil Dairies, was appointed as an outside director. The company expects that as the first CEO in the domestic milk processing industry, she will strengthen the expertise of SK Inc.'s investment business while contributing to sustainable development. SK Inc. was the first large conglomerate holding company to hold a dispersed general meeting and implement electronic voting. It was selected as the top company in ESG excellence by the Korea Corporate Governance Service in 2018 and received the highest A+ rating in last year's evaluation. It has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for nine consecutive years until last year.
