Timon Announces Bold Policy: "We Will Charge a Negative 1% Sales Commission"...
Sales Commission -1% for Single Item Registration... PG Fee Also Burden
From April 1... Reducing Seller Burden and Increasing Room for Price Discounts
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Online shopping mall TMON will implement a groundbreaking policy starting next month on the 1st, setting the sales commission for some products from partner vendors at -1%.
On the 29th, TMON announced in a press release, "We will begin a new concept of negative commission policy, setting the sales commission at -1%, starting April 1."
According to the "2020 Large Retailers Distribution Transaction Survey" released by the Fair Trade Commission, the actual commission rate for online malls averages 9%. TMON stated that since it not only reduces the commission but also refunds an additional 1%, sellers will effectively receive greater benefits.
While some companies reduce commissions to 0% or partially waive them, TMON is the first to offer a negative commission, effectively refunding sales commissions.
TMON explained, "The negative commission policy was planned to further strengthen platform competitiveness by providing good products at special prices based on win-win cooperation with partners."
Starting April 1, sellers who register products on TMON can receive benefits by registering individual units of products without options in the single-item registration category. This method specifies options such as product color and size. All transactions already registered in this category will automatically have a -1% sales commission applied. TMON will also bear the payment gateway (PG) fees.
Registering as a single product is expected to make product searches easier and reduce consumer inconvenience caused by option price differences. Since there is no burden from sales commissions, there is also room to lower prices further.
