Gwangju Seo-gu's '24-Hour Safe Dispatch Service' Project Receives Praise
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) is receiving favorable reviews for its ‘24-hour Safe Dispatch Service’ project.
According to Seo-gu on the 25th, this is the first initiative in the region as part of the community-integrated care pilot project, aimed at alleviating daily inconveniences for the elderly within the district.
The ‘24-hour Safe Dispatch Service’ is a customized welfare service project where a dispatch team promptly visits households to resolve issues when help is requested via a safety call.
This project was launched to care for the increasing number of elderly households who find it difficult to handle everyday problems alone, such as hospital accompaniment, fluorescent light replacement, and home appliance repairs.
In particular, it has attracted attention for its differentiated approach from existing welfare projects by establishing a support system capable of immediate dispatch during nighttime hours, which are high-risk periods, and providing seamless 24-hour care services.
To this end, the district recruited volunteers to participate in the Safe Dispatch Service last year.
As a result, over 30 volunteers are currently participating, promptly responding to calls from the elderly and providing assistance.
Since the launch of the 24-hour Safe Call Service, 85 cases have been received and handled swiftly.
Details show that 46 cases involved fluorescent light replacement and home appliance repairs, 15 cases involved hospital accompaniment, and 12 cases involved household help, resolving various inconveniences faced by the elderly.
In fact, last month, an elderly woman living in Nongsong-dong suddenly complained of abdominal pain and requested help via the Safe Call. She was quickly transported to the hospital, where timely treatment for peritonitis helped her avoid a critical situation.
Also, an elderly couple living in Yang-dong called the Safe Call around 9 p.m. because the grandfather could not get onto the bed, and immediate dispatch resolved the issue.
As such, the 24-hour Safe Dispatch Service significantly contributes to supporting the daily lives of the elderly by providing detailed and comprehensive services ranging from life-threatening issues to seemingly minor problems.
