Samsung Display Reaches Agreement on Ordinary Wages... Back Pay for 3 Years to Be Recalculated and Paid
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Display has partially acknowledged the issue of ordinary wages raised by the union and decided to recalculate and pay approximately three years' worth of allowances.
On the 25th, Samsung Display announced the 'CL2 Equipment/Manufacturing Regular Shift Worker Salary System Improvement' on the company bulletin board.
Samsung Display stated, "There are cases where fixed overtime allowances can be considered as ordinary wages, so after discussions with the labor-management council, we will improve the related system," adding, "Accordingly, allowances from December 2017 to February 2021 will be recalculated and paid including interest."
Ordinary wages refer to wages agreed to be paid regularly, fixedly, or uniformly every month regardless of the name for prescribed work.
Earlier, the Samsung Display union filed a lawsuit at the end of last year, claiming that fixed overtime allowances and company support for personal pensions were not included in ordinary wages, causing employees to suffer losses in extended, night, and holiday allowances based on ordinary wages.

However, the Samsung Display union expressed regret in a statement regarding this decision, saying, "Although the company partially acknowledged the ordinary wage issue raised by the union, limiting the announcement to regular shift workers only appears to provoke conflict between unions," expressing disappointment.
