China Reclaims 28,500㎡ on Spratly Islands' Subi Reef Defense
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] On the 24th, the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that China has carried out land reclamation on Subi reef in the Spratly Islands (Chinese name 'Nansha Islands'), where it is engaged in territorial disputes with neighboring countries.
According to the report, satellite images of Subi reef taken last month by the U.S. space technology company Maxar revealed a previously unseen rectangular land area of approximately 28,500 square meters.
Colin Koh, a professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, predicted that this land could be used for various purposes such as a radar tower, helicopter landing pad, and space for mobile weapons.
