Jeonnam Province Begins Selection of Members for the 'Autonomous Police Committee'
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province has begun the process of forming the Autonomous Police Committee ahead of the full implementation of the autonomous police system on July 1.
According to the province on the 24th, the 'Jeollanam-do Autonomous Police Committee' will be composed of seven members.
The governor, the superintendent of education, and the National Police Commission will each recommend one member, and the Provincial Council and the Committee for Member Recommendation will each recommend two members.
Accordingly, the province has formed a recommendation committee as a preliminary step to verify the qualifications of the recommended members and to enhance fairness and transparency.
The five members appointed as recommenders include four recommended respectively by the Jeonnam Mayors and County Governors Council, the Chairs Council of City and County Councils within the province, the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, and the Chief Judge of the Gwangju District Court, along with the ex officio member, the Director of Planning and Coordination of Jeonnam Province.
Governor Kim Young-rok said, "The Autonomous Police Committee plays a crucial role in planning and executing policing service policies closely related to the lives of residents. For this newly established system to be successfully settled, the first step of forming the Autonomous Police Committee must be done well."
He added, "I ask the committee members to rigorously evaluate candidates and recommend individuals who all residents can empathize with and trust."
