What is the story behind Care SOS Center cleaning the hoarded trash at Mr. A's house in Seongbuk-gu?
Positive Reviews for Seongbuk-style Care SOS Center-led Residential Environment Improvement Project... "Thanks to Care SOS Help, I Feel Like I Have a Chance to Live a New Life"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is providing a new life to neighbors in need through its housing environment improvement project centered on the Care SOS Center.
A representative case is Mr. A, a man in his 70s living in Jongam-dong, who suffered from hoarding disorder, collecting scrap paper and metal, and piling up trash inside his home.
Mr. A, a recipient of basic living security benefits, lived with trash left unattended inside his house due to his hoarding disorder. Although complaints about the foul odor were continuously reported, there was no one to check on Mr. A, who lived alone.
At this time, welfare planners and care managers stepped in. They continuously visited Mr. A’s home, engaging in conversations to persuade him of the need to organize his living space. Initially, Mr. A was highly resistant to cleaning, but gradually he lowered his guard toward others and finally agreed to the cleanup.
After persistent efforts by the welfare planners and care managers, the Care SOS Center obtained permission to clean the house and coordinated with related service providers to remove the neglected trash.
Looking around his now trash-free home, Mr. A said, “Thanks to the help from Care SOS, I feel like I have a chance to live a new life, and I will maintain my home clean from now on.”
Besides Mr. A’s case, the Seongbuk-type Care SOS Center received praise for its prompt services to support residents’ housing convenience during the recovery process after the gas explosion accident in Jeongneung-dong. After the accident, SH Corporation and Seongbuk-gu quickly secured nearby vacant houses and arranged temporary shelters for the affected residents. Despite it being a weekend, the Seongbuk-type Care SOS Center swiftly provided emergency housing convenience services such as cleaning and disinfection to help residents return to their daily lives.
The housing convenience service of the Care SOS Center is one of the services expanded from the original four major services to six major services (▲temporary home care ▲meal support ▲housing convenience ▲accompaniment support ▲short-term facility ▲welfare check) implemented since February this year.
This service assists with simple home repairs, cleaning, disinfection, and pest control within the household.
Although still in the early stages, it has contributed to improving the quality of life by enhancing the living environment of residents with physical difficulties, quickly responding to urgent care needs, and receiving great support from the community.
The Care SOS service targets elderly, seniors, disabled persons, and middle-aged residents aged 50 or older who require care. It is available to those who have difficulty moving alone or performing independent daily activities, have no family members to provide care or whose family members cannot provide care, or those excluded from public care services.
Residents wishing to use the service can apply at their local community service center. The Seongbuk-type Care SOS Center establishes a customized care plan tailored to the individual and then provides appropriate services.
