‘Caught Voice Phishing Twice in 11 Days’ Financial Security Guard Gains Attention
Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station Presents Commendation and Reward Money for Reports

On the 23rd, Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station announced that it presented a letter of appreciation and a reward for reporting to Mr. A, a security guard at the Industrial Bank of Korea Gwangsan Branch, who prevented voice phishing twice.
On the 22nd, around 4 p.m., near the bank closing time, Mr. A witnessed a man wearing a suit and carrying a bag on his shoulder entering the 365 corner and making cash deposits in units of 1 million won at the ATM.
Feeling something was suspicious, he asked the bank teller to check the CD machine, and upon confirmation, he heard that the deposited money was being immediately transferred to another account, suspecting it was a phone financial fraud, and reported it to 112.
The voice phishing cash collector was caught by police officers dispatched from Gwangsan Police Station.
Earlier, on the 11th, a man wearing a suit entered the bank’s 365 corner and made cash deposits at the ATM while frequently looking at his phone and conducting cash transactions for a long time, which aroused suspicion. A report was made to 112 on suspicion of voice phishing, and the police officers who arrived on the scene caught the man in the act.
Kim Gwangnam, chief of Gwangsan Police Station, said, “This year, all staff at Gwangsan Police are focusing on promoting voice phishing prevention as a key task,” and added, “We sincerely thank the bank for actively reporting.”
