On the 21st, the Korea Meteorological Administration announced that an analysis of spring flower blooming dates over the past 40 years shows that forsythia, azaleas, and cherry trees begin blooming from Jeju Island and tend to bloom nationwide around a week later. Between 2011 and 2020, the average cherry blossom dates were March 25 on Jeju, March 30 in the southern region, and April 6 in the central region.
For plum blossoms, blooming has been recorded to start from mid-February on Jeju over the past 10 years, with blooming dates of March 5 in the southern region and March 25 in the central region. Forsythia tends to bloom on March 17 on Jeju, March 21 in the south, and March 29 in the central region, while azaleas start blooming from March 19 on Jeju, March 24 in the south, and March 30 in the central region.

Plum blossoms have advanced by 10 to 21 days, forsythia by 2 to 6 days, azaleas by 3 to 5 days, and cherry trees by 2 to 6 days. In the 1980s, the average nationwide blooming date for plum blossoms was April 2, but in the 2010s, it advanced significantly to March 12.
This is due to the rise in average temperatures in February and March, which affect blooming dates. The average temperature in February was 2.9°C between 1981 and 1990, but rose by 1.3°C to 4.2°C between 2011 and 2020.

However, in the past 10 years, the blooming period for spring flowers has been similar to or even slightly later than the previous decade. The average minimum temperature in February from 2011 to 2020 was 1.6°C, which is 0.4°C lower than the previous decade (2001?2010). As a result, the blooming date for forsythia was delayed by 2 days compared to the previous decade, while azaleas and cherry trees remained the same.
