Gangdong-gu Launches Welfare Project to Boost Happiness Index for People with Disabilities (UP)
Support of 178 million KRW to 11 organizations conducting 9 projects in 5 fields... Each organization runs unique programs and COVID-19 response non-face-to-face programs
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) will provide a total subsidy of 178 million KRW to 11 organizations that will carry out welfare projects aimed at improving welfare and convenience for people with disabilities.
On January, the district held a public contest for five fields (▲Rehabilitation programs for people with disabilities ▲Leisure and culture activation projects ▲Disability awareness improvement programs ▲Sports programs for people with developmental disabilities ▲Living environment improvement for low-income people with severe disabilities), and after related reviews in February, finally selected 11 organizations to carry out 9 projects.
The organizations will operate eight programs to improve welfare for people with disabilities (▲Rehabilitation horseback riding ▲Rehabilitation sports ▲Rehabilitation for the visually impaired ▲Leisure and culture activation projects ▲Healing projects for families of people with disabilities ▲Sign language classes of love ▲Operation of Happy School for people with disabilities ▲Sports programs for people with developmental disabilities).
Each organization will uniquely design programs to provide diverse experiences for people with disabilities.
Although there were difficulties in operating programs last year due to COVID-19, from this year, each organization will develop non-face-to-face programs and operate flexibly according to social distancing levels.
Additionally, a living environment improvement project supporting cleaning, disinfection, wallpapering, and floor replacement for low-income people with severe disabilities will be promoted to enhance convenience for people with disabilities.
The project has been in full swing since March, and detailed information can be obtained by contacting the executing organizations for each project.
