The items subject to inspection are imported seafood such as red sea bream and scallops.
The inspection activities will focus on whether the origin is labeled, acts of disguising imported products as domestic, and the appropriateness of the labeling method.
Since the management of imported seafood distribution records was transferred from the Korea Customs Service to the National Fishery Products Quality Management Service under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in October last year, the province plans to enhance the effectiveness of guidance and inspection by utilizing the 'Imported Seafood Distribution Record Management System.'
The 'Imported Seafood Distribution Record Management System' is a system that requires mandatory reporting of transaction details at each distribution stage when importing seafood designated and announced by the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries or when trading such seafood domestically.
A fine of up to 5 million KRW will be imposed if this reporting is not done.

Lee Jongha, Director of the Marine and Port Division of the province, stated, "Origin labeling of imported seafood is directly related to the health of residents, so strong penalties for violations of origin labeling are necessary," and added, "We will continue to provide safe food and promote fair trade through ongoing guidance and inspections, doing our best to protect both producers and consumers."
