Jeju Coast Guard, Promotes Securing Visualized Fishing Vessel Data for Marine Accident Preparedness
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Regional Coast Guard announced on the 18th that from March to June, over a period of three months, it will secure visual data of fishing vessels in the province, such as photos of vessel entrances and lifesaving equipment, in advance to enable prompt rescue in case of maritime accidents.
* Target vessels for securing visual data: fishing vessels over 5 tons and fishing boats
Category | Total | 5 tons↑ (vessels) | Fishing boats (vessels) |
Total | 1114 | 882 | 232 |
Jeju City | 601 | 465 | 136 |
Seogwipo City | 513 | 417 | 96 |
The Jeju Coast Guard plans to secure these materials in advance as the foggy season, when fog is frequent, approaches, increasing the likelihood of accidents during fishing operations and emergencies such as maritime accidents.
Currently, information about fishing vessel captains and crew members is managed through the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' Vessel Entry and Exit System, which serves as important data for personnel identification in maritime accidents.
However, considering difficulties in confirming the hull structure and entrance information immediately when accidents such as capsizing or grounding occur at sea, the Coast Guard plans to additionally secure visual photo data of the vessel's exterior, liferafts, and cabin entrances. It is expected that registering this data in the Vessel Entry and Exit System will enable faster rescue operations.
