The ‘Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project’ is a community-based living SOC project that supports innovative growth in fishing villages by modernizing outdated infrastructure such as piers and integrating fishing village and harbor development projects reflecting local characteristics.
In 2019, Nohwa Solji Port and Geumdang Gahak Port were selected, securing 10.4 billion KRW. At Nohwa Solji Port, projects such as reinforcing the passenger ship berth and constructing a new waiting room are underway to improve the passenger ship stopover area, along with building harbor facilities including pier and quay reinforcement.
Geumdang Gahak Port is implementing projects to improve residents' living conditions such as expanding safety facilities on Gahak Coastal Road, remodeling the Fishermen’s Happiness Welfare Center, and creating a Happy Playground, as well as establishing a Fishermen’s Cooperative Dining Area and modernizing pier docking facilities.
Last year, four sites?Geumil Shingu Port, Gunoe Dangin Port, Shinji Myeongsa Port, and Cheongsan Modo Port?were selected, securing 40.8 billion KRW. Basic harbor facilities such as breakwaters and quay expansions are being constructed at the selected ports. At Geumil Shingu Port, youth rest areas, a return-to-fishing center, a housewives’ rest area called ‘Eoyeogaja,’ and a children’s study room named ‘Kkumteo’ are being established.
At Gunoe Dangin Port, a youth return-to-fishing center and senior welfare facilities, maintenance of the fishermen’s forest, and village flower paths are being developed. Shinji Myeongsa Port plans to install floating docks, establish a Myeongsa Port management center, and improve harbor facilities, along with creating water play harbor spaces, a recycled art park, and a resident healing center to enhance living conditions.
At Cheongsan Modo Port, priority is given to constructing a new waiting room, reinforcing passenger ship berths, and building a car ferry dock as part of the passenger ship stopover area improvements. Additionally, a seaweed cooperative workshop, a ‘Mong Ttaerim’ beach park, and a guesthouse are being developed.
The 2020 projects are currently in the basic planning and detailed design stages, and once the detailed design is completed, the living SOC projects will be prioritized.
This year, two sites?Yaksan Eodu Port and Soan Mira Port?were selected, securing 20.1 billion KRW. Basic plans are being established this year, and projects such as breakwater and quay reinforcement, passenger ship stopover improvements, and fishermen’s rest area creation are underway. Local residents will organize village enterprises to develop and market local specialty brands, contributing to increased income in fishing villages.
