Gwangju Honor Society Delivers White Rice to Cheonwon Bapsang 'Haetteuneun Sikdang'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] When the operational crisis of ‘Haetteuneun Sikdang,’ which insists on a 1,000 won meal table for the underprivileged, became known, members of the Gwangju Honor Society came together in support.
According to the Gwangju Community Chest of Korea on the 17th, members of the Gwangju Honor Society delivered 100 bags of rice to ‘Haetteuneun Sikdang’ that day.
The members took action after hearing that despite the difficult economy and rising prices, the restaurant, which operates without raising prices considering the circumstances of the mainly visiting disadvantaged people, is struggling to manage.
The delivery ceremony was attended by Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City; Lim Taek, Dong-gu District Mayor; Han Sang-won, Chairman of the Gwangju Community Chest of Korea; Koo Je-gil, Chairman of the Gwangju Honor Society; and all members, brightening the occasion.
Koo Je-gil, Chairman of the Honor Society, said, “I was heartbroken to read the article about the restaurant leading good causes facing an operational crisis,” and added, “The Gwangju Honor Society will always listen carefully to the difficulties of the people in the Gwangju area.”
Meanwhile, the Honor Society is a group of high-value individual donors of the Community Chest of Korea that aims to solve local community problems and lead the maturation of the donation culture to promote the development of the social community. Membership is granted to those who pledge to pay 100 million won or more either in a lump sum or within five years, practicing noblesse oblige.
