Jeonnam Province Accelerates Construction of Eastern Multipurpose Government Building... Target Completion by End of Next Year
Communication and Cultural Space Combined... Carbon Zero Certified Building
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province is accelerating the construction of a multipurpose government building equipped with communication and cultural spaces to provide better integrated administrative services to residents in the eastern region.
The province announced on the 17th that the Eastern Region Integrated Government Building will begin construction in the second half of this year, aiming for completion by the end of next year.
With a project cost of 38.7 billion KRW, it will be built on a 30,596㎡ site in the Shindae District of Suncheon, consisting of one basement floor and three above-ground floors.
The Eastern Region Integrated Government Building, which began site selection in 2019, will be Jeonnam’s first carbon zero (ZERO) certified building, leading low-carbon green growth in line with the 2050 Jeollanam-do carbon neutrality initiative.
Additional features such as high-density, high-insulation architectural systems will be incorporated, with detailed design scheduled to be completed by June.
Throughout the entire process from planning to design, construction, and maintenance, diverse opinions from private sector experts are being reflected.
Various resident convenience facilities such as a large auditorium, multipurpose lecture rooms, open meeting rooms, and a book caf? will be included to serve as a community hub.
In particular, a smart (video) civil service office will be installed, enabling residents to handle civil affairs without visiting the provincial office, equipped with functions suitable for future administrative demands. The building will also be eco-friendly and energy-saving through the installation of renewable energy sources such as solar power.
The eastern region of Jeonnam includes seven cities and counties: Suncheon, Yeosu, Gwangyang, Goheung, Boseong, Gurye, and Gokseong, accounting for 35% of Jeonnam’s total area. The population is about 900,000, representing 47% of the total population.
The current Eastern Regional Headquarters building started as the Eastern Branch Office when the Jeonnam Provincial Office moved to Namak, Muan in 2005.
In August 2018, under the 7th local government administration, it was expanded and reorganized into a headquarters system with one main office, six divisions, 24 teams, and the inclusion of the Forest Resources Research Institute, effectively serving as a second government office.
