Gwangyang City Intensively Operates Livestock Environment and Disinfection Day to Prepare for Seasonal Change
Promoting Livestock Disease Prevention and Odor Reduction Activities on Livestock Farms
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City announced on the 17th that it will intensively operate the ‘Livestock Environment and Disinfection Day’ until October to create a pleasant livestock environment and effectively respond to livestock infectious diseases and high concentrations of fine dust.
‘Livestock Environment and Disinfection Day’ is a day when livestock farms voluntarily participate once a week in cleaning livestock barns, deworming and pest control, and disinfecting and quarantining inside and outside the barns to improve awareness of livestock farms and create a clean livestock environment.
The city is conducting continuous promotional activities such as training for eup, myeon, and dong officials, village-level announcement broadcasts, sending text messages and mail to livestock farms, and distributing promotional materials to encourage active participation of livestock farms.
In addition, in line with the concentrated period of manure and liquid fertilizer application during the busy farming season (March to May), the city’s Agricultural Technology Center’s Technology Extension Division and Comprehensive Testing Laboratory are conducting livestock manure compost maturity inspections in the first half of this year to reduce odor from livestock farms, and are thoroughly guiding and inspecting compost maturity management for livestock farms.
