The British royal family issued a statement on the 16th (local time), stating that "Prince Philip has been successfully treated for an infection and undergone surgery for a pre-existing condition and has now been discharged," according to reports by BBC and others.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed his happiness that Prince Philip has returned to Windsor Castle and wished him a speedy recovery.
At around 10:30 a.m. that day, Prince Philip was seen leaving the hospital in a wheelchair by the press.
The 99-year-old Prince Philip felt unwell and was admitted to King Edward VII's Hospital on the evening of the 16th of last month after traveling by car from Windsor Castle.
At that time, the royal family announced that he was receiving treatment for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
However, there was speculation that Prince Philip's illness did not appear to be related to COVID-19, as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip had already completed their COVID-19 vaccinations in January.
Prince Philip was transferred to St Bartholomew's Hospital on March 1st and underwent heart surgery two days later on the 3rd. This hospital houses the largest cardiovascular disease specialist center in Europe.
Prince Philip had previously undergone coronary artery stent insertion surgery in 2011.
During Prince Philip's hospitalization, an interview with Prince Harry and his spouse Meghan Markle, who revealed allegations of racism within the British royal family, was released on the 7th. It is reported that Queen Elizabeth II was deeply distressed and greatly worried about her husband Prince Philip, who was recovering in the hospital after heart surgery.
In the interview, Markle revealed, "When my son was born, members of the royal family were concerned that my son's skin color would be dark and did not want him to be a prince."
Prince Harry and his spouse did not disclose who specifically raised concerns about their son's skin color. Oprah Winfrey, who conducted the interview, stated, "It was not Queen Elizabeth and her husband."
