Genesis Hits Big, Expected to Easily Surpass 200,000 Units Sales Target This Year
Global Sales Surge 215% Early This Year
Likely to Far Exceed Target of 200,000 Units
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] As sales of Genesis, Hyundai Motor Company's luxury brand, surge, there are projections that this year's sales target of 200,000 units could be surpassed, reaching 300,000 units. Hyundai plans to further strengthen Genesis's dominance in the luxury car market by launching a dedicated Genesis electric vehicle in the third quarter.
According to the automotive industry on the 16th, Hyundai's global sales of Genesis from January to February this year reached 24,604 units, a 215% increase compared to the previous year. Domestic sales were 18,818 units, and exports were 5,786 units, marking increases of 204% and 259% respectively compared to the previous year.
At this sales pace, there are expectations that this year's Genesis sales target of 200,000 units will be easily exceeded. Last year, Genesis's global sales totaled 128,000 units, and if the sales growth rate of over 200% continues, this year's Genesis sales could reach 300,000 units.
Encouragingly, both domestic and export sales are rapidly increasing.
Genesis's strong performance in the domestic market stands out in particular. From January to February this year, Genesis accounted for 16.9% of Hyundai's total domestic sales, marking an all-time high. Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of 9.7 percentage points. If this sales trend continues, it is expected that one out of every six Hyundai vehicles on the road in Korea this year will be a Genesis.
Exports overseas are also significantly increasing, especially centered on the U.S. market. Cumulative sales of Genesis in the U.S. market this year reached 5,216 units, already accounting for 30% of last year's total sales of 16,384 units.
