Kia's First Dedicated Electric Vehicle 'EV6' Interior and Exterior Design Revealed
New Tiger Nose Design Unveiled
Hyundai Ioniq 5 Scheduled for Full-Scale Production
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hyundai Motor Group is accelerating the launch of electric vehicles (EVs) built on dedicated platforms. As Hyundai begins full-scale production of its first dedicated EV, the Ioniq 5, next week, Kia also unveiled the interior and exterior design of its dedicated EV, the ‘EV6,’ on the 15th. The group plans to speed up new product launches to capture the rapidly growing global EV market.
Unveiling of EV6... Sequential Pre-Reservations Underway
The EV6, whose interior and exterior designs were revealed for the first time on this day, is Kia’s first dedicated EV built on Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated EV platform, E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform). Following the design reveal, Kia plans to fully unveil the EV6 to the global market by the end of this month and conduct sequential pre-reservations not only in Korea but worldwide.
The most distinctive feature of the EV6 is the reinterpretation of Kia’s iconic front design element, the ‘Tiger Nose,’ into a ‘Digital Tiger Face’ tailored for an electric vehicle. The Digital Tiger Face, combined with the moving light pattern applied to the daytime running lights (DRL), gives a sleek and sophisticated impression.
Kia applied its new design philosophy, Opposites United?a creative fusion of contrasting concepts?for the first time on the EV6 to complete this design. Opposites United means combining contrasting shapes, structures, and colors to create a futuristic design that did not exist before.
The interior design was also newly created. The most eye-catching feature of the EV6’s interior is the panoramic curved display that smoothly wraps around the front. The wide screen and slim dashboard maximize the sense of visual expansion while making the vehicle’s interior appear more spacious.
Karim Habib, Executive Vice President of Kia Design, said, "Starting with the EV6, all future Kia products will allow customers to directly experience and feel the design philosophy of Opposites United." Kia plans to launch the EV6 in July and expand its market share in the EV sector.
Explosive Growth in EV Market... Hyundai Targets 10% Global Market Share
Hyundai and Kia plan to sequentially launch the Ioniq 5, EV6, and Genesis electric vehicle JW (development name) this year to accelerate their global EV market penetration. The reason Hyundai and Kia are intensifying EV launches is due to the explosive growth of the related market.
According to the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, global EV sales reached 2,025,371 units last year, a sharp increase of 34.7% compared to the previous year. Last year was the first time the EV market surpassed 2 million units. The association expects the EV market to grow at an even higher rate this year.
Domestic EV sales are also surging. For example, Hyundai’s Ioniq 5, scheduled for release next month, attracted more than 35,000 pre-reservations in Korea alone since last month, demonstrating strong popularity. This number far exceeds the domestic sales target of 26,500 units for this year. Kia’s EV6 is also expected to receive a large volume of pre-reservations.
