Not a Fishing Spot but Crowded with People, Even Cars Splash In... Residents Suffer Double Hardship Due to Quarantine Rule Violations
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] A reservoir supplying agricultural water has turned into a 'fishing spot' due to the negligence of the Korea Rural Community Corporation. At one location, a driver lost control and rolled down the slope below the reservoir amid the crowd.
On the 13th, MBC Newsdesk reported an accident on the 2nd where a passenger car rolled down at Bansan Reservoir in Buyeo, Chungnam, where many anglers had gathered.
According to the report, the vehicle was a passenger car driven by an angler, which rolled down the slope below the reservoir while trying to avoid cars lined up on the narrow embankment.
Recently, as more people have gathered around the reservoir to fish, the dirt paths and even the middle of the reservoir have become crowded with people.
However, this area originally belongs to the Korea Rural Community Corporation and is a no-fishing zone. The reservoir, created to supply agricultural water to farmland, has fallen into disrepair and turned into an illegal fishing spot due to poor management.
Moreover, nearby residents are suffering double hardships due to anglers neglecting social distancing and other quarantine rules, leaving behind large amounts of trash.
One village resident expressed dissatisfaction in an interview with MBC, saying, "No one knows who came from where, and there is no management; trash bags containing six to seven butane gas canisters are just left unattended."
