Yemeni Rebels Houthi Reject US Ceasefire Proposal
[Asia Economy Reporter Sung Kiho] The Yemeni rebel group Houthi (self-proclaimed Ansar Allah) has effectively rejected the United States' ceasefire proposal.
On the 12th (local time), rebel-affiliated media reported that the rebel spokesperson Muhammad Abdul-Salam stated that "the US proposal to halt the civil war is a gamble that could make the situation in Yemen more dangerous than it is now," indicating no intention to accept the proposal.
Spokesperson Muhammad said, "This proposal only reflects Saudi Arabia's position and offers nothing new," adding, "If the US truly wants to end the Yemeni conflict, a declaration of the end of the war must come first."
Timothy Lenderking, the US Special Envoy for Yemen, met with parties involved in the Yemeni civil war in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Muscat, Oman, the previous day to urge a ceasefire.
