First Detection of Brazil-Origin COVID-19 Variant in the Philippines
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] A COVID-19 variant virus originating from Brazil has been detected for the first time in the Philippines.
The Philippine Department of Health announced on the 13th that a Filipino who returned from Brazil tested positive for the P.1 variant virus.
The Department of Health also added that there were 59 new confirmed cases of the UK variant virus and 32 new confirmed cases of the South African variant virus, bringing the cumulative confirmed cases to 177 and 90, respectively.
