'Coup' Myanmar Military: "International Community Misunderstands... We Will Hold Elections and Transfer Power"
[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] The Myanmar military, which seized power through a coup, stated that the international community is misunderstanding the situation and that it will hold elections as planned and transfer power accordingly.
Major General Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson for the Myanmar military regime, announced at a press conference on the 11th, "We respect neighboring countries and the international community, but we will continue to pursue the goals we set when we took power last month."
He added, "We will hold elections and transfer power to the winner."
He stated, "The unrest in Myanmar is not a situation that the international community should be concerned about. The Western world is making incorrect assumptions," and confirmed, "We have hired lobbyists to clear up misunderstandings in the international community."
In particular, he claimed, "There may be reciprocal violence due to provocations, but the military and police use force only when necessary."
