Gwangju City Selected for Ministry of Employment and Labor Youth Center Operation Public Contest Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 11th that it has been selected for the Ministry of Employment and Labor's '2021 Youth Center Operation Public Contest Project' and will receive 150 million KRW in project funds necessary for operating the Gwangju Youth Center until the end of this year.
The Youth Center Operation Support Project is promoted in a way that local governments secure youth spaces, discover and propose programs suitable for regional characteristics, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor reviews, selects, and supports them.
In this contest, 39 local governments nationwide applied, and after the first document screening by the regional labor office, the second PT presentation, and the third Ministry of Employment and Labor review, a total of 12 local governments were finally selected on the 10th.
Gwangju City proposed projects focusing on supporting low-activity youth such as reclusive individuals, long-term unemployed, and job seekers who have given up looking for jobs, operating youth capacity-building programs to develop job-seeking ability, vocational skills, social participation ability, and entrepreneurship ability, and integrated guidance and promotion of youth-tailored policies, as the employment cliff for young people has deepened due to the impact of COVID-19, aiming to build a social safety net that protects the daily lives of youth.
After refining the project plan with consulting from the Korea Employment Information Service, the city plans to sign an agreement with the Ministry of Employment and Labor by the end of this month and proceed with the project until the end of the year.
