The meeting was attended by about 10 cultural city promotion officials, including Jinju Mayor Cho Gyu-il and Kim Deok-hwan, chairman of the Cultural City Promotion Committee.
At the meeting, reports were made on various project plans to supplement the cultural city creation plan for the designation of the 3rd cultural city last year and the project schedule for the designation of the 4th cultural city.
Mayor Cho said, “Jinju is a city with a long history and tradition and is a hometown of culture and arts. As a citizen, I am proud that Jinju has the nickname of a cultural city.” He added, “Now, I hope the young people of Jinju will work hard to create a new culture for the next 100 years and to establish a genuine cultural city where people, spaces, and cultural contents harmonize.”
On the same day, the 2nd Cultural City Jinju Supporters Orientation and a talk concert titled ‘Cultural City Jinju as Thought by Youth,’ participated by cultural and artistic planners active in the region, were held at the city hall citizen hall, hosted by the Cultural City Support Center.
Mayor Cho asked the talk concert participants to uncover hidden history and newly plan so that citizens can feel culture in their daily lives.
This project aims to activate creative cultural and artistic activities harmonizing tradition and modernity in everyday life through direct participation of cultural and artistic organizations, cultural planning professionals, and citizens.
Additionally, to share correct perceptions of ‘What is a cultural city?’ and various ideas for creating a Jinju-type cultural city led by citizens themselves, cultural city forums will be held throughout the year.
The cultural city forums will expand not only to traditional culture and arts but also to various areas of everyday culture. Experts related to cultural cities will participate, and forums visiting towns and villages directly (offline or non-face-to-face video) will also be held.
It is expected that artists, who have had various skills but faced administrative, financial, and spatial limitations making it difficult to find points of contact to share artistic activities with citizens, will become more active.

To concretely implement these projects, the center plans to actively cooperate with the city to partially amend the ordinance on the creation of Jinju Cultural City, establishing institutional grounds for fostering and supporting everyday culture and creating and supporting cultural and artistic creative spaces. In addition, plans include revitalizing everyday culture clubs and supporting cultural playground projects.
