Yeosu City Accelerates Promotion of New Technologies Including Smart Farms in Horticultural Crop Sector
3.9 Billion KRW Invested in Pilot Projects for Smart Farms and Subtropical Fruit Complex Development
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced on the 11th that it will invest about 390 million KRW this year in new technology dissemination projects in the horticultural crop fields such as vegetables, fruit trees, and smart farms for horticultural farmers.
According to the city, it plans to promote three national and provincial projects and seven city projects for the new technology dissemination pilot project in the horticultural field, expanding the newly researched and developed technologies and equipment to farming sites.
In particular, the city will focus on discovering promising new income crops that respond to climate change and changes in consumer trends, and improving convenience and productivity through convergence of advanced technologies, thereby promoting new technology dissemination projects to enhance farm competitiveness in response to changes in the agricultural environment.
As detailed projects, 130 million KRW will be invested in two smart farm installation projects including the ‘Region-tailored Smart Farm Technology Dissemination Pilot,’ and 72 million KRW will be invested in two projects including the ‘Subtropical Fruit Tree Complex Creation Pilot’ adapted to our region and the ‘Consumer-preferred Small Fruit Stable Production Pilot.’
Additionally, 184 million KRW will be supported for 11 sites across six types of projects such as the ‘Facility Horticulture Pest and Disease Control Labor-saving Pilot’ to improve competitiveness of income crops near urban areas.

A city official said, “We will strive to firmly establish new technologies through the promotion of new technology dissemination pilot projects for horticultural crops tailored to changes in the agricultural environment and active on-site guidance, so that it can serve as a foundation for increasing farm income and the development of agriculture and rural areas.”
