Yeosu City Expands MICE Incentive Support System for Post-COVID-19 Response
New Hybrid (On-site & Online Attendance) and Online Meeting Incentive Support Established
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced on the 11th that it will expand the customized MICE incentive support system to respond to the post-COVID-19 era in order to support the MICE industry, which has been in crisis due to COVID-19.
Living up to its reputation as the nation's first MICE-certified city, Yeosu MICE events increased annually with 1,109 events in 2017, 1,320 in 2018, and 1,340 in 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of events held last year dropped by 60% to 536.
The city has newly established an incentive support system for hybrid meetings (both offline and online) and online meetings to actively respond to the changing trends in the MICE industry after the post-COVID-19 period.
Yeosu City has been operating MICE incentive support systems based on scale, such as domestic meetings (up to 20 million KRW), international meetings (up to 25 million KRW), and small-scale corporate meetings (up to 3 million KRW).
This year, the support scope has been expanded to provide up to 20 million KRW for hybrid meetings and up to 6 million KRW for online meetings.
Additionally, in the second half of the year, through its own public contest, the city plans to select two regionally specialized exhibitions that fit the brand image of Yeosu as a marine tourism and resort city and support each with up to 30 million KRW.
