[IssueLaw] "I Want to Punish the Perpetrator" How Should School Violence Victims Take Legal Action?
[Asia Economy PD Yoon Jin-geun] Recently, victims of school violence (hakpok) have been exposing these issues through online communities and other platforms. However, many cases have already passed the statute of limitations, or lack sufficient evidence, making it difficult to know where to start with legal action.
In the ‘Lee Park Choi Legal Center’ released on the Asia Economy YouTube channel, lawyer Park Seong-min appeared to discuss youth school violence.
Lawyer Park first summarized the acts that constitute school violence. According to him, school violence is defined under the Act on the Prevention of and Countermeasures against School Violence (School Violence Prevention Act). The types of school violence include ▲verbal and psychological violence ▲physical violence ▲and exclusion or bullying.
Measures and punishments for school violence mainly include ▲administrative disciplinary actions ▲and civil/criminal liability investigations. Lawyer Park emphasized, “Anyone can report school violence, and the protection of the reporter’s identity is guaranteed,” urging victims of school violence to actively respond to recover from their harm.
