Floor Leader Kim Tae-nyeon: "We Will Establish a System to Completely Block Speculation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] On the 10th, the Democratic Party's floor leader group, who met with President Moon Jae-in, expressed their determination to launch an all-out legislative battle regarding the land speculation allegations involving Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH). The floor leaders' free speech mainly focused on legislative responses to LH.
The luncheon meeting, which began around 11:40 a.m., included opening remarks by President Moon Jae-in and the floor leader group, followed by a free speech session alongside the luncheon starting at 11:50 a.m.
After Cho Seung-rae, the senior deputy floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, mentioned the 21st Democratic Party's government activities, Kim Young-jin, the chief deputy floor leader, stated during the free speech session, "We will eradicate LH speculation, punish speculators, and recover speculative profits," conveying a strong commitment to legislative countermeasures against LH. Kim added, "We will also expedite the passage of the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act to provide institutional support to prevent misconduct by public officials."
Subsequent remarks continued to address the LH incident. Lawmaker Moon Jin-seok said, "When a disease occurs, it must be treated thoroughly," and added, "We will strive to improve the system through the LH speculation prevention law." Lawmaker Kim Yong-min also mentioned, "The LH issue is a matter of fairness," emphasizing, "We must recognize this issue as one of fairness and set policy directions toward restoring fairness." Lawmaker Park Sang-hyuk stated, "We will establish institutional measures to eradicate LH speculation," and added, "We will work hard to eliminate speculation through the Special Act on Public Housing."
Floor leader and acting party leader Kim Tae-nyeon emphasized, "Turning a crisis into an opportunity is also a capability," and said, "We will create laws and systems to fundamentally prevent public officials and public institution employees from engaging in speculation, thereby creating opportunities for the advancement of Korean society."
In addition, there were mentions of other issues overshadowed by the LH incident, such as industrial revitalization, the 4th disaster relief fund, Gadeokdo New Airport, and K-quarantine. Lawmaker Hong Sung-guk said, "We will strive to activate the New Deal fund," and mentioned the need to expand electric vehicle charging stations, noting, "The number of electric vehicles in our country will increase from 60,000 to 70,000, and many people will take vacations in electric cars during the summer." Lawmaker Lee Won-taek said, "At a time when the supplementary budget for the 4th disaster relief fund is about to be processed, small-scale farmers with less than 1 hectare are being neglected in disaster support," and added, "It is time to pay attention to small-scale farmers." Lawmaker Jeon Jae-soo expressed his determination, saying, "We will ensure that legislation proceeds smoothly so that Gadeokdo New Airport can open in 2029."

The luncheon meeting was attended by Kim Tae-nyeon, acting party leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party; Kim Young-jin, chief deputy floor leader; senior deputy floor leaders Jeon Jae-soo and Cho Seung-rae; floor spokespersons Park Sung-jun and Hong Jeong-min; and deputy floor leaders Kim Yong-min, Kim Won-i, Moon Jeong-bok, Moon Jin-seok, Park Sang-hyuk, Yoon Geon-young, Lee Seong-man, Lee So-young, Lee Yong-bin, Lee Won-taek, Im Ho-seon, and Hong Sung-guk from the Democratic Party.
