Junsung Kim, Yeonggwang County Governor, Visits National Assembly Regarding West Coast Railway Construction
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters reporter Lee Jeonseong] Kim Junsung, governor of Yeonggwang County, Jeonnam, visited the National Assembly on the 10th and met with National Assembly member Lee Gaeho and Son Myeongsu, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, to request cooperation for the inclusion of the West Coast Railway construction in the 4th National Railway Network Plan.
The West Coast Railway is a railway connecting Mokpo~Muan~Hampyeong~Yeonggwang~Gochang~Buan~Saemangeum~Gunsan, with a length of 141.4 km and a total project cost of 2.3056 trillion KRW, and it is a project to be constructed as a double track.
The county proposed a working-level meeting involving Yeonggwang, Buan, Gochang, Hampyeong, and Muan counties, which are on the West Coast Railway route. On the 16th, a working-level meeting for the construction of the West Coast Railway will be held with the participation of the heads of departments from the five counties, and thereafter, through consultations among the heads of each local government, they plan to make every effort for the construction of the West Coast Railway.
Governor Kim Junsung said, "The West Coast Railway is a project included in the comprehensive development plan for the South Coast region announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on June 30 last year, and it is an essential project to resolve regional imbalances and strengthen cooperative links," adding, "I ask for your cooperation to ensure it is definitely included."
