Han Dong-chun, president of the Samgwe Middle and High School Alumni Association, and former village chiefs of the Samgwe area announced a statement welcoming the attraction of the Gyeonggi Southern International Airport on the 9th at Hwaong District, a preliminary candidate site for the relocation of Suwon military airport.
In the statement, they said, "Thirty years ago, the Samgwe area was famous nationwide for its prosperity, but now it is declining due to various indiscriminate developments," and added, "With the hope of restoring the old reputation of the Samgwe region, we support the attraction of an international airport in Hwaong District."
They particularly added, "The Gyeonggi Southern region is home to major IT and semiconductor conglomerates such as Samsung, LG, and SK Hynix, and has sufficient air travel demand with a population of 7.5 million."
They also explained, "With the construction of an international airport opening air routes, the expansion of transportation infrastructure such as wide-area roads and railways for logistics transport and the increase in floating population will make it more competitive than any other airport."
