Worried About Abnormal Behavior in Pets?
Recruitment for 'Visiting Our Neighborhood Animal Trainer' Training Participants Until the 31st... Demonstrations and Practice on Correcting Problem Behaviors in Companion Animals After Identification
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seongap) is recruiting participants for the "Visiting Our Neighborhood Animal Trainer" program, which provides counseling on problematic behaviors of companion animals and helps with behavior correction, until the 31st.
The program targets a total of 25 households among residents who have registered their animals (based on resident registration). Applications must be made under the name of the registered animal owner. If there are many applicants, priority will be given to households raising designated dangerous dogs requiring special management, followed by households adopting abandoned dogs, and then households raising three or more animals.
Applications can be submitted by downloading the application form from the website and visiting the Regional Economy Division in person, or by fax or email.
The training consists of three sessions including a preliminary visit, and one-on-one education via messenger will also be conducted during the training period.
In the first session, the location of the pet’s toileting and living areas and the types of problematic behaviors will be identified, followed by demonstrations and practical exercises for correcting each issue.
In the second session, changes after rearranging the living environment and the adherence to new habits and rules will be checked, followed by additional demonstrations and practical exercises for correction, along with diagnosis and evaluation.
Even after the training ends, follow-up education and counseling can be provided through an SNS communication network established between the animal owner and the trainer.
Meanwhile, a survey conducted after last year’s training showed that over 90% of households were satisfied with the program content and reported that their pets’ abnormal behaviors were corrected.

Kim Seongap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “As we enter an era of fifteen million companion animals, conflicts and disputes among neighbors due to dog bites and noise are also increasing. Since 2017, we have been the first in the nation to operate this visiting training program to establish a safe and proper companion animal culture.”
