‘Gaya Tumuli’ Inscribed as World Heritage... Passed UNESCO's First Gate
Decision on Listing Expected at the 46th World Heritage Committee Meeting in July Next Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The Gyeongnam Research Institute announced on the 8th that the 'Gaya Tumuli' world heritage nomination submitted in January this year with the goal of registration next year by the Cultural Heritage Administration has passed the completeness review by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre.
The UNESCO World Heritage Centre is the secretariat responsible for operating the World Heritage Committee, which makes decisions on the registration of UNESCO World Heritage sites, and the General Assembly of the States Parties to the World Heritage Convention.
The completeness review is a process in which the UNESCO World Heritage Centre examines the formal requirements of the submitted nomination dossier.
Once this review is passed, the full world heritage registration evaluation process proceeds.
If the completeness review is not passed, the nomination dossier is returned to the applying country.
Nomination dossiers that pass the completeness review by the World Heritage Centre undergo document examination and on-site inspection by advisory bodies from March of that year until the first half of the following year.
The Cultural Heritage Administration expects the registration decision to be made at the 46th World Heritage Committee meeting scheduled for around July next year.
Hong Jaewoo, director of the Gyeongnam Research Institute, said, "The Gyeongnam Research Institute will do its best together with related local governments to ensure that the 'Gaya Tumuli' can be registered as a world heritage site in July next year."
