BTS to Perform as First Korean Act Following Grammy Awards Nomination
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dong-hyun] BTS will perform at the Grammy Awards, the most prestigious event in the pop music industry.
The Recording Academy, which hosts the Grammy Awards, announced the full lineup of performers for the 63rd ceremony to be held on the 15th (local time in the U.S. on the 14th) on the 8th.
The lineup includes BTS, Cardi B, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Lil Baby, Dua Lipa, Chris Martin, John Mayer, Megan Thee Stallion, Post Malone, Roddy Ricch, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, and others. This marks the first time a Korean artist has performed as an official nominee at the Grammy Awards.
The Recording Academy quoted BTS's "Dynamite" lyrics on social media, saying, "Let's watch BTS light up the Grammy night brilliantly with fireworks," and added, "You won't want to miss their performance."
BTS also performed at the 62nd Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles (LA) in January last year, but they were not nominated and performed as part of a collaborative stage. At that time, they shared the stage with rapper Lil Nas X and country singer Billy Ray Cyrus as the "Old Town Road All-Stars." BTS first attended the Grammy Awards at the 61st ceremony in 2019, where they participated as presenters. Now, after two years, they have been nominated and will perform on stage.
On the other hand, this year’s ceremony increases the possibility of BTS performing a solo stage as official nominees. BTS is nominated for the Grammy 'Best Pop Duo/Group Performance' category this year with their hit song "Dynamite," which reached number one on the Billboard main singles chart.
However, due to the impact of COVID-19, BTS’s performance may be filmed domestically in Korea. The Recording Academy stated, "Artists will safely maintain distance while coming together," and added, "As a community, we will present music for each other and celebrate how music connects us as one."
