"Warmer Weather Boosts Hiking Enthusiasts" ... Shinsegae Department Store Sees 44% Increase in Outdoor Sales
Athleisure Including Leggings Grows by 70%
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Outdoor sales are significantly increasing this spring. This is thanks to the growing number of young customers visiting the mountains and the surge in demand for student bags and jumpers as the new school semester begins.
According to Shinsegae Department Store on the 7th, outdoor sales last month grew by 43.5% compared to the same period last year. Sales in the athleisure genre, including leggings, also surged by 70.2% during the same period.
The main reason was that people tired of the winter cold wave and 'stay-at-home life' due to COVID-19 came outdoors. The population enjoying outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and walking, where social distancing is possible, increased. Additionally, the demand for March new semester items, which had been sluggish due to last year's delayed school opening, revived.
Shinsegae Department Store is launching various outdoor discount events in line with this trend.
During the Millet Brand Week held online from the 8th to the 14th, related products such as Hero Kids Down jackets priced at 49,000 KRW and zip-up T-shirts at 35,000 KRW will be sold at up to 70% discount. At the end of this month, an online outdoor event will feature various brands such as The North Face, K2, Eider, and Black Yak all in one place.
Leggings preferred by young hikers are also attracting attention this spring with bright colors like pink and sky blue. Popular brands include Jeximix, Mula Wear, Andar, and Avocado.
Products needed for new school semester life include Discovery backpacks priced at 159,000 KRW and Kodak T-shirts at 109,000 KRW.
