North Korea Reports 3.65 Million Students Affected in Studies Due to COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Due to disruptions in school operations caused by COVID-19 in North Korea, approximately 3.65 million students have experienced difficulties in their studies, according to Radio Free Asia (RFA) on the 5th.
According to the 'COVID-19 and School Closures' report released by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on the 3rd, a total of 3,645,383 North Korean students in elementary, middle, and high school education were affected by partial or full school closures from March 11 last year to February 2 this year.
Among them, about 1.51 million students did not receive normal elementary education, which was relatively more affected compared to middle school (about 1.05 million) and high school (about 1.1 million) students.
During this period, North Korean schools were fully closed for 28 days and partially closed for 41 days.
In South Korea, including the 'kindergarten level,' a total of 7,044,963 students were reported to have experienced educational disruptions. The total number of partial and full school closure days in South Korea was 116 days.
