"US Secretary of State and Defense Secretary Considering Visit to Korea After Japan Trip This Month"
[Asia Economy Reporter Woo Su-yeon] U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin are scheduled to visit Japan and South Korea sequentially this month, Japanese Kyodo News reported on the 4th.
On the same day, Kyodo News stated through multiple Japanese government officials that the two secretaries are coordinating with both governments to visit Japan starting from the 15th.
The two secretaries are expected to stay in Japan until the 17th and participate in the U.S.-Japan Security Consultative Committee (2+2), which includes ministers responsible for diplomacy and defense. Kyodo News also reported that they will hold individual meetings with Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu and Defense Minister Kishi Nobuo, and are likely to meet Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide.
Additionally, it was noted that the two secretaries are considering visiting South Korea after their trip to Japan.
