There were no casualties from the fire, but eight abandoned dogs died, and part of the kennels and Lee's living space were burned, resulting in an estimated property damage of about 29 million won, according to the fire department.
Approximately 60 abandoned dogs that had not been adopted were living together with Lee at the shelter.
Because of the dogs, Lee was unable to move to a temporary shelter and was reported to have been sleeping in short naps on newspapers spread on the floor of the kennels that were not affected by the fire, along with the abandoned dogs.
