Assemblyman Lee Hyung-seok Recruiting Participants for Staff Experience Program 'Youth and the National Assembly'
Providing Practical Experience Opportunities Such as Legislative Activities and National Assembly Audit Preparation for University Students in Gwangju Area
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Representative Lee Hyung-seok (The Democratic Party of Korea, Gwangju Buk-gu Eul) announced on the 1st that he is recruiting participants for the 1st term of the ‘Youth and the National Assembly’ program, which allows university students in Gwangju Metropolitan City to experience working as National Assembly aides.
National Assembly aides support legislative activities of lawmakers, such as collecting materials for National Assembly audits and other parliamentary activities.
As it is a professional position, various educational programs have recently been conducted for university students and the general public interested in becoming National Assembly aides.
Most of the National Assembly aide training programs planned by political parties or organizations are conducted in lecture format near Yeouido, Seoul, where the National Assembly is located.
Therefore, it is difficult for those outside the metropolitan area to participate in these educational programs. Due to physical and economic limitations, opportunities to experience aide work are restricted.
In response, Representative Lee decided to run the ‘Youth and the National Assembly’ program to solve this problem and allow local university students to experience working as aides.
The program plans to support local university students in gaining sufficient experience just like students in the metropolitan area.
In particular, unlike other programs conducted in lecture format, this program offers participants the opportunity to actually experience tasks such as data collection, bill proposal, and preparation for National Assembly audits based on topics of interest.
The program, which starts in March, will be held once a week until the end of June and will be conducted online in principle to comply with COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
Interested university students can inquire at Representative Lee Hyung-seok’s office in the National Assembly.

Representative Lee said, “Although interest in aides, who play a key role in the National Assembly, is increasing, opportunities for local university students to experience this are limited. I hope that talented individuals produced through the Youth and the National Assembly program will later be able to work as aides in the National Assembly.”
