Gwangjin-gu and Turkey Ereli District Exchange Video Messages Commemorating 20th Anniversary of Friendship
Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Sister City Partnership and Delivering Support Messages for Overcoming COVID-19... Active Exchanges in Culture, Tourism, and Economy Since 2001
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) produced and exchanged congratulatory video messages on the 20th anniversary of the sister city relationship with Turkey's Ere?li District on the 26th.
The video includes congratulations on the 20th anniversary of the partnership and a message of encouragement to not lose hope and overcome the crisis together amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Kim Seon-gap began the video message with the Turkish greeting 'Merhaba,' meaning 'Hello,' saying, “Congratulations on the 20th anniversary of the friendly exchange between Gwangjin-gu and Ere?li District. We have built an unwavering friendship over the past 20 years since 2001.”
He continued, “Just as every beginning has an end, I believe we can wisely overcome this difficult time,” adding, “The harder it gets, the more we rely on each other. I hope everyone stays healthy until the day we meet again.”
Since signing the sister city agreement on February 26, 2001, Gwangjin-gu and Turkey's Ere?li District have maintained active exchanges in various fields such as culture, tourism, and economy.
To symbolize their ongoing exchanges and strong friendship, Gwangjin-gu established a Korean traditional pavilion called ‘Gwangjinjeong’ in the Ere?li District’s sister park, while Ere?li District installed a Turkish traditional washbasin called ‘Osmanlı ?e?mesi’ in Gwangjin-gu’s Gwangjin Square, promoting each country’s traditional culture and continuing cultural exchanges.
Additionally, during the difficult times of COVID-19, the two cities exchanged healing video content showcasing their beautiful sights and landscapes to comfort their citizens. When the pandemic reached its one-year mark, they exchanged letters containing messages to strengthen solidarity and cooperation, encouraging each other.
