Gwangju City Establishes and Implements Cultural Heritage Preservation and Management Plan
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 26th that it has established the 2021 Cultural Heritage Preservation and Management Implementation Plan and will build a management system for the original preservation of cultural heritage.
It will also promote projects for utilizing cultural heritage and discovering historical and cultural resources.
First, to preserve the original form of cultural heritage and prepare for disasters, repair and maintenance will be carried out on 32 designated cultural heritage sites, including Hwanbyeokdang area, with a budget of 2.4 billion KRW.
Additionally, repair and maintenance of Wonhyo Temple, a traditional temple with historical and cultural value, and maintenance of disaster prevention systems at six traditional temples including Jeungsimsa will be promoted. Aging facilities at Chungjangsa, Chungminsa, Gyeongryeolsa, and Pochungsa within the Mudeungsan area will be repaired and managed to improve the preservation of cultural heritage and the viewing environment.
For 211 cultural heritage sites, including designated cultural heritage, periodic inspections will be conducted to promptly repair and restore minor damages, and 800 million KRW will be invested in the Cultural Heritage Care Project to prevent further damage.
For the Cultural Heritage Documentation Project, which has been promoted annually since 2010 with an investment of 100 million KRW to systematically manage local cultural heritage and use it as basic data for repair and restoration, this year Pochungsa, Monument No. 7, has been selected for documentation.
In addition, together with autonomous districts, programs such as Saengsaeng Cultural Heritage, Cultural Heritage Night Tour, Hyanggyo·Seowon·Sansah experience projects, utilization of old houses and Jonggatjip (head family houses), and local cultural heritage education projects will be operated to increase familiarity with cultural heritage and promote the idea that utilization is the best preservation through historical education and experience programs.
Furthermore, the construction of the Sinchang-dong Relics Prehistoric Experience Learning Center, which promotes excellent local Mahan culture and provides educational and experiential spaces, is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. A budget of 7 billion KRW will be invested in the reconstruction project of Huigyeongru to commemorate the millennium of Jeolla Province and enhance its status as a historic cultural city.
