South Korea and US Agree on 'Close Bilateral Consultations' in US North Korea Policy Review
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Senior officials from the South Korean and U.S. governments have agreed to continue intensive consultations through various channels, including ministerial and senior-level talks, during the U.S. review process of its North Korea policy.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 25th, Noh Kyu-duk, Director General for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, reaffirmed close cooperation and coordination between the two countries through a video conference on North Korea’s nuclear and related issues with Sung Kim, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, on the morning of the same day.
Both sides evaluated the close cooperation and coordination between South Korea and the U.S. during the U.S. review of its North Korea policy. They exchanged in-depth views on ways to advance cooperation between the two countries to achieve denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and establish lasting peace.
They agreed to continue intensive consultations at various levels between South Korea and the U.S. throughout the U.S. North Korea policy review process and beyond.

Earlier, on the 19th, Noh, Sung Kim, and Takehiro Funakoshi, Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a trilateral video conference among South Korea, the U.S., and Japan’s senior officials on North Korea’s nuclear and related issues.
