[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is strengthening support policies for retired middle-aged and senior citizens with rich experience and wisdom.
First, it operates the ‘Nowon 5070 Talent Donation Group’ to encourage individuals to use their talents for social contribution. The Talent Donation Group recruits certified or experienced individuals in relevant fields to work at 243 senior centers and welfare facilities in the area. After recruiting 17 people for the first time last year, it plans to recruit about 20 more this year.
The recruitment fields include ▲ cultural and artistic activities such as music, dance performances, art galleries, and forest interpretation ▲ education and counseling such as foreign languages, storytelling, and psychological therapy ▲ IT informatization such as computers, smartphones, and coding ▲ and other fields such as law and finance, totaling four categories of activists.
Individuals and groups (clubs, communities) based in Nowon are all eligible to apply, and an activity fee of 10,000 KRW per session will be provided.
The application period is until the 26th. Applicants can download the application form from the Nowon-gu Office website under the Events/Lectures section and submit it via email (ripples80@nowon.go.kr).
The selected candidates will be announced on March 5.
If you want to develop yourself for the second act of life or challenge a new career, it is recommended to knock on the door of the ‘Nowon 50 Plus Center.’
Established as a regional hub platform to support jobs for middle-aged and senior citizens, this center opened in December 2016 in Sanggye 2-dong (Nowon-ro 30-gil 73), with one basement floor and four above-ground floors.
The target group is middle-aged people aged 50 to 64 preparing for retirement, and the center comprehensively supports second-life planning through ▲ operation of education programs for career and hobbies/leisure ▲ support for communities such as clubs ▲ job counseling and linkage. Currently, about 12,000 people are registered as center members.
Especially since the Nowon Education Welfare Foundation took over operations in 2019, efforts have been focused on expanding job opportunities according to user demands. Last year alone, 588 jobs were created, greatly aiding the social re-entry of middle-aged and senior citizens.
This year, the center plans to hire one full-time employee dedicated to job counseling and aims to create at least 500 jobs, putting all efforts into achieving this goal.
Additionally, it plans to expand training and consulting for freelance entrepreneurship, including drone instructor, kiosk instructor, online instructor (including online video production education for non-face-to-face classes), and pet care specialist courses that connect learning directly to work.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “Policies for middle-aged and senior citizens in the era of 100-year lifespans should focus on ‘freedom to work’ rather than ‘the rest of life.’ We will actively strive to utilize the accumulated expertise and experience in various fields to contribute to regional development.”
