Jinju-si to Begin COVID-19 Vaccinations Starting the 26th
First Doctor Vaccination, Phase 1 Priority for Nursing Hospital/Facility Staff and Inpatients
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 24th that it will begin COVID-19 vaccinations in the Jinju area starting from the 26th.
According to the city, the first person to be vaccinated in Jinju is Song Hyun-seok (43), the director of Jinju Central Nursing Hospital. Starting with the first vaccination on this day, the city will begin the first phase of vaccinations for 2,550 people, which corresponds to 95% of the vaccination target group under 65 years old in 10 nursing hospitals and 22 nursing facilities.
The COVID-19 vaccine used is AstraZeneca. On the 25th, 700 doses will be supplied to the public health center to be used for on-site vaccinations for staff and residents of nursing facilities. For nursing hospitals, 2,400 doses will be supplied on the 25th and 27th to be used for vaccinating staff and inpatients.
This vaccination will be conducted for those under 65 years old who have given prior consent. Among the nursing facility recipients, 684 people who showed a high consent rate of 99% will receive on-site vaccinations at contracted hospitals and clinics with the public health center. Additionally, 1,866 people, corresponding to 90% of nursing hospital recipients, will be vaccinated on-site by the hospitals themselves.
The city has pre-distributed preliminary examination forms, information leaflets, and vaccination confirmation documents to nursing hospitals and facilities to reduce any inconvenience caused by vaccination delays for local residents.
From the 22nd to the 23rd, on-site inspections were conducted regarding the preparation of emergency medicines, proper operation of vaccine refrigerators and placement of thermometers, and completion of training for medical staff and workers.
The vaccination target in Jinju is approximately 204,000 people, which corresponds to 70% of the population aged 18 and over. Starting with phase 1 in February, vaccinations will begin for citizens classified as priority recipients until November.
Phase 2 vaccinations are planned for March, targeting workers in high-risk medical institutions, treatment hospitals, and first responders to COVID-19. In May, vaccinations will proceed in order for citizens aged 65 and over, and healthcare workers at medical institutions and pharmacies, though the schedule may change depending on vaccine supply.
The city aims to achieve herd immunity by vaccinating over 70% of all citizens at the vaccination center installed in the Chojun-dong Indoor Sports Complex by July.
