Songpa-gu Mayor Park Seong-su Proposes 'Korea National University of Arts Relocation to Songpa-gu' to Minister Hwang Hee
Minister Hwang Visits Songpa-gu on the 23rd to Attend the Sports Industry Comprehensive Support Center Opening Ceremony... Formally Proposes 'Korea National University of Arts Songpa-gu Relocation' During Pre-Ceremony Meeting
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, has rolled up his sleeves to attract the Korea National University of Arts (KNUA) to Songpa-gu.
On the 23rd at 1:30 PM, Mayor Park had a meeting with Hwang Hee, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, prior to the opening ceremony of the Sports Industry Comprehensive Support Center (424 Olympic-ro, Songpa-gu).
At this meeting, Mayor Park formally proposed to Minister Hwang the relocation of KNUA to Songpa-gu, which is currently being prepared, and actively explained the synergy effects with the cultural, artistic, and sports facilities established in the area if the university moves to Songpa.
He also conveyed the location conditions and expected benefits of the candidate site near the Sports Industry Comprehensive Support Center, expressing the strong will of the residents.
Mayor Park stated, “Songpa-gu not only has abundant infrastructure in various fields such as history, culture, arts, and sports, but it is also the only site within Seoul city where an integrated campus for six schools, desired by KNUA students and faculty, can be established,” adding, “I hope the decision will be made considering KNUA’s vision and uniqueness as an art school, rather than political reasons or balanced development logic.”
Meanwhile, Songpa-gu has selected the area of 445-11 Bangi-dong as a candidate site for the relocation of KNUA and is making every effort to attract the university.
