[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, requested on the 23rd, "Please prepare the development plan for the Ilsin and Jeonnam Textile sites in a way that maximizes public value by preserving historical and cultural heritage, as well as enhancing urban competitiveness and the quality of life for citizens."
Mayor Lee stated this during the Tuesday executive meeting, emphasizing, "The development plan for the Jeonnam Textile and Ilsin Textile sites, known as the last prime land in downtown Gwangju, should also derive the optimal solution that balances public interest, business feasibility, and transparency through cooperation with the local community."
He continued, "However, since each citizen has different thoughts and value centers, and different ways of loving Gwangju, it is difficult to come up with a single plan that satisfies all Gwangju citizens," adding, "Above all, it is important for our city to maintain balance without leaning toward any side, focusing solely on history and Gwangju’s development, and to prepare the development plan steadily."
