Gangdong-gu Book Cafe Library 'Dadokdadok' No.1 Branch Community Program Operation
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) announced that it will operate various community programs for residents at the Book Cafe Library Dadokdadok Branch 1 (1419 Yangjae-daero, Gangdong-gu, 2nd floor).
Opened in September last year, Dadokdadok (多讀茶篤) Branch 1 is a 'Gangdong-style innovative cultural space' where people meet and communicate through books and tea, as its name suggests.
Unlike traditional libraries, it has been created as a space where residents can comfortably stay, chat over tea, even if they do not read books.
The district plans and operates specialized programs tailored to different target groups so that residents can gather through books and new communities can be formed within.
For elementary school students, a 'Book Report Writing Class' is held, and for office workers interested in books, a weekday evening reading club called 'Chaegro' is held once a week. In addition, various community groups such as library volunteer groups and co-parenting meetings are also supported.
In particular, Dadokdadok Branch 1 holds the largest collection of English original books among libraries in the area, with about 500 popular English original books available for different age groups.
▲ Reading English picture books to infants and toddlers ▲ Elementary school original book classes conducted by youth talent donations ▲ English reading clubs for adults, and other specialized programs using English original books are also being conducted.
Also, to support residents who find it even harder to meet due to the COVID-19 situation, a 'Shared Library for One Team Only' will be operated. By accepting prior reservations, the library space will be lent to one small resident group that meets social distancing standards, enabling safer meetings under restricted conditions.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “Following Dadokdadok Branch 1, Branch 2 at Gobundari Traditional Market in Cheonho-dong and Branch 3 in Amsa-dong are about to open,” and added, “We will do our best to create a cultural innovation space where residents can enjoy cultural life close to home, where villages and people meet, and communities become more active.”
