On the 8th, CNN introduced Banwoldo as a "photographer's dream island," sharing travel news about ‘Purple Island’ along with eight photos.
CNN described the island's opening and transformation into a purple island as a "risky but beautiful attempt," and evaluated that the attempt has been successful given the recent increase in tourists.
Fox News also highlighted the uniqueness of ‘Purple Island’ on the 19th (local time). Fox News posted an article titled "Korea's Banwoldo attracts more tourists after becoming Purple Island" in the 'Hot Topics' section.
‘Purple Island’ has become a popular daily travel destination on Instagram, attracting thousands of visitors as international travel was restricted due to COVID-19, and the article detailed the process of becoming a purple paradise starting from 2015.
‘Purple Island’ was also featured in detail last year on Germany's largest satellite TV channel Prosieben and Hong Kong's famous travel magazine U magazine.
Since 2007, Sinan-gun has been developing ‘Purple Island’ with residents, starting from Purple Bridge, using purple as the theme.
Considering the ecological characteristics such as the purple balloon flower colonies and bee balm growing naturally on the island, the concept was set as a purple island. Lavender, magnolia, hydrangea along the wooden bridge and coastal walking paths, village roofs, walls of small warehouses, aprons, tableware, and coffee cups were all made purple, making it Korea's first case of successfully creating a color image for an entire island.
Governor Park Woo-ryang said, "Last year, Purple Island was introduced in a famous Hong Kong travel magazine with about 1.8 million Facebook followers and in a TV program popular among Germans. It is also being reported by the world's largest American media, shining a light on the efforts of the residents of Purple Island (Banwol and Bakji Islands). We will prepare thoroughly so that tourists from all over the world can visit."
