[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] The first batch of 58,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine arriving in Korea through COVAX on the 26th of this month will begin to be administered to approximately 55,000 healthcare workers at COVID-19 treatment hospitals starting the next day, the 27th.
Jung Eun-kyung, head of the Central Disease Control Headquarters, stated at the COVID-19 regular briefing on the 22nd, "58,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine through COVAX will arrive on the 26th," adding, "The vaccination will be conducted at the central and regional COVID-19 vaccination centers, and to minimize medical service gaps caused by visits to the centers, infectious disease-dedicated hospitals with more than 120 eligible recipients will conduct vaccinations on-site."
For the Pfizer vaccine, priority recipients include workers at COVID-19 base hospitals, infectious disease-dedicated hospitals, severe patient treatment beds, and residential treatment centers. Vaccination centers have been established at the National Medical Center, Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital, Yangsan Pusan National University Hospital, Chosun University Hospital, and Daegu Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital.
Head Jung said, "Vaccinations will be carried out in the order of the central vaccination center, regional and local vaccination centers, and on-site vaccination medical institutions," and added, "Since this is the first introduced vaccine and there is difficulty in managing frozen vaccines, on-site vaccination medical institutions will participate in on-site training at vaccination centers to ensure the safe administration of the Pfizer vaccine."
Meanwhile, administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine will begin at 9 a.m. on the 26th, one day before the Pfizer vaccine vaccinations start. SK Bioscience, the domestic contract manufacturer, will supply approximately 750,000 doses sequentially over five days from the 24th to the 28th to the logistics center located in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province. Corresponding to the supply, vaccines will be subdivided for each medical institution and transported to public health centers and nursing hospitals nationwide from the 25th to the 28th.

Prior to vaccination, the vaccination registration function will also be launched starting the 25th. This function allows vaccination institutions to check eligible recipients and input detailed vaccination records after administration. Through this, it is possible to verify vaccination eligibility by the recipient’s name or resident registration number.
