Namwon-si, Wolrak Water Purification Plant Modernization Full Renovation Project 'Smooth Progress'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Namwon City, Jeonbuk, announced on the 22nd that the "Wollak Water Purification Plant Modernization and Comprehensive Improvement Project," which is being promoted to supply clear and clean tap water, is progressing smoothly.
The Namwon Wollak Water Purification Plant, installed in 1975 with a facility capacity of 15,000㎥/day, is an aging facility urgently needing improvements in the main treatment processes (coagulation, flocculation, filtration, and clear water reservoir). Namwon City secured national funding and has been promoting the facility improvement project since 2019.
So far, Namwon City has made various efforts, including investing city funds in advance for basic and detailed design to secure national budget priority, and actively expressing the necessity of the project through multiple visits to the National Assembly and central government departments. As a result, it was finally selected for the Ministry of Environment's Local Waterworks Modernization Project and received 19.5 billion KRW in national and provincial subsidies.
The Wollak Water Purification Plant improvement project is being promoted with a total investment of 32.5 billion KRW, aiming to complete the project by the end of 2023.
The current construction progress rate is 27%, and work is underway to demolish existing facilities and build new ones while maintaining water supply.
The existing material warehouse, management building, and rapid filtration basin have been demolished, and a management building has been completed in their place. Currently, the filtration basin and clear water reservoir are under construction.
The next steps include installing the intake pump station, coagulation sedimentation basin, intake well, discharge facilities, and concentration tank, which will complete the Wollak Water Purification Plant modernization and improvement project.
